You might have thought that smoking the hookah is fairly safer or even healthier than smoking cigarettes. With the herbal concoctions attracting smokers to take up the shisha, most just lead to believe that it is healthier — but this is a grave misunderstanding as this would only lead to deeper addiction to smoking shisha.

If you are sitting the fence and thinking if you are going to quit or not, here are the top three reasons to finally quit the habit of shisha smoking.

» Avoid the risk of cancers. Lung cancer, stomach cancer, oral cancer and other smoke-related cancers can easily be avoided when you avoid smoking the shisha pipe. According to the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) smoking from a shisha pipe is at least as toxic as cigarette, which is often a grave mistake by those who switch from smoking cigarettes to the hookah. Leave the smoking habit altogether so as to avoid these serious risks for your health.

» No wasteful spending. Think about how much burning the shisha pipe costs you up to now? Imagine if you could have invested that amount in other worthwhile and profitable endeavours. It’s not just the financial spending you can save up; you can save up on the time you waste on shisha smoking. There are better ways to spend your time, rather than taking up your hookah for unhealthy smoking.

» Live longer. When you stay away from the hookah, you are extending your life by 10 years more from the age of 30. Even people who smoke and stop at the later age of 60 can extend their lifespan by 3 or more years. This act also increases your over-all change of living a disease-free and happier life.

There can never be enough reasons to list why you should stop smoking shisha but these three lead the rest of the ever-growing reasons to start today. Do not wait for tomorrow to start. Decide now and quit the unhealthy habit of shisha smoking.

Shisha or hookah smoking involves inhalation of smoke from flavoured tobaccos coursed through a water pipe and has been offered up for sale in various public establishments for young and old alike.

There is a growing concern among people that this trend of displaying shisha tends to attract young people such as students and young professionals to buy and try out smoking shisha themselves. The attraction of how some shisha are concocted from herbal mixtures of crude tobacco mixed with various fruits and molasses and fermented to product a sweet and fruity aroma of the hookah smoke.

Some public places such as cafes and restaurants tolerate shisha smoking but concerned citizens particularly elders and senior citizens have expressed request to ban such activities.

Perhaps, these actions might not be enough to prevent the ever-growing users of the hookah to stop; in the first place, they should have been prevented. Letting first-time hookah smokers savour the excitement of first-time shisha smoking are not helping in the long run. It is like having ripe fruit dangling on a low-hanging branch – so easy to reach.

The difficulty in starting is finding the power to stop from this unhealthy habit. Shisha smoking brings about herpes, mouth and lung cancers among others. In fact, just an hour of smoking the hookah pipe is already equivalent to smoking 100 cigarettes according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). There must be widespread awareness to these young people about the adverse effects of smoking. It is not just saying it is herbal and therefore it is safe; the long-term impact of smoking leaves your body in a state susceptible to unhealthy complications and diseases.

Let us help out the youth of today to totally avoid this unhealthy habit of shisha smoking by preventing the lure of the hookah smoking in public places.

The habit of shisha smoking has always been considered as a bad habit. There are numerous ways to quit and there are a more than a hundred reasons to say good bye to the shisha pipe and yet, you allow yourself the leisure of ignoring the facts.

Perhaps you have tried everything to no avail and you have quit and have gone back again to the nasty shisha smoking habit. You would really like to stop but unfortunately, the lure of habit is very hard to break.

Are you truly ready to quit the habit of shisha smoking? Here are four powerful keys to help you be on your way to break free from shisha smoking.

1. The lure of the bad. When you were growing up, do you remember when your elders tell you not to – the more enticing that becomes? Saying to yourself don’t smoke, stop smoking shisha… the more you are telling your mind to do so. Ironic as it maybe, the reason to stop should outweigh these bad lures.
2. Putting it in the mind. The more you think about quiting – the more you are likely to be doing the habit. It is like when you often remember bad memories; the more likely it is you will have a nightmare of those bad memories. Saying “don’t think of smoking shisha” makes you want to smoke shisha even more. It would be better to replace this with another alternative activity or thought rather than thinking you won’t smoke.
3. The right way to take the candy from a baby. As it goes, you can’t just take a candy from a baby without making the baby cry out. This goes the same with saying bye-bye to your shisha pipe. It leave a gaping hole that you simply cannot just ignore – leaving you a feeling of emptiness.
4. Mind what you say, both outside and inside. The psychology of hypnotherapy applies to what you say to others as well as what you say to yourself. When your inner self talks in the debate to quit the nasty habit of shisha smoking, a battle with the mind ensues. Your brain does not work that way as to understand “Stop smoking” or “Don’t smoke shisha” – it would simply filter out the “stop” and the “don’t” and what do you get left? “Smoke.” So saying something in negation does not support your drive to quit the habit.

Simply knowing these keys are not enough; it is really up to you do find the true resolve to break free and end the bad habit of shisha smoking.
